New Qualifications Enhance Spaciotempo's Business Offering

Spaciotempo is delighted to announce details of recent qualifications obtained by its staff which will increase the efficiency of the company’s core business operations and improve the service delivered to customers.

Ian Graney and Charlie Tavernor are both now qualified to fulfil the roles of "Appointed Person" and "Crane Supervisor” on sites requiring the utilisation of cranes. In addition, Ann Kirkham has achieved a Distinction in the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

Mark Taylor, Managing Director of Spaciotempo UK Ltd, said:

“I am very proud of the qualifications obtained by all of our staff. These ongoing training programmes further demonstrate our commitment to the continuous development of our product and service offerings and to building the best trained, most professional and dedicated workforce in the industry.

“In an ever changing market this enables us to continually meet and exceed our clients’ expectations and to remain the leading provider of temporary and semi-permanent building solutions in the UK.”

Crane Operations

In order to comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), the British Standards Institution (BSI) provides the code of practice BS7121 - Safe Use of Cranes.

This code of practice outlines the roles of;

The 'Appointed Person' – this is the competent person who is ultimately responsible for developing a safe system of work for every lifting operation which includes supplying the risk assessment and method statement.

And;

The 'Crane Supervisor' – this is the competent person who is responsible for ensuring that the safe system of work, as provided by the Appointed Person, is followed.

Competence is defined as 'sufficient experience, technical knowledge and training' and both Charlie and Ian have clearly demonstrated these skills.

From an operational perspective this now enables Spaciotempo to take control of on-site operations requiring the utilisation of a crane. The benefits of increasing our technical capabilities will also help us to reduce the cost of crane lifting operations on all our jobs and improve our competitiveness in the market.

Health & Safety

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is an independent awarding body that has been in existence since 1979 and now attracts over 15,000 candidates each year.

NEBOSH was the first health and safety awarding body to have been given accreditation by the government's Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). A NEBOSH qualification is recognised and respected by employers in all sectors of the economy and provides evidence of real achievement. The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a qualification designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities to discharge more effectively their organisational duties and functions.

To achieve the National General Certificate, Ann had to undertake a minimum of 87 hours tuition plus private study and background reading. Assessment was by an end examination comprising two written papers and a practical assessment which required the carrying out of a health and safety inspection of a workplace and the preparation of a management report.
