SPACIOTEMPO TO THE RESCUE IN RETAIL EMERGENCY

The Penrith branch of Morrisons supermarket chain was devastated by fire in early December in the crucial build-up to Christmas. With 50 firefighters battling through the night to save as much of the building as possible it seemed as though the store would be inaccessible for the foreseeable future.

However, the Store’s managers – determined to find a solution to help local customers reliant on the store at this busy time of the year – called on Spaciotempo, one of the UK’s most prominent suppliers of temporary buildings, to propose a time frame to install an emergency supermarket on site in a safe location.

Just 8 days later a 20m x 50m temporary retail building was up and running and ready for business. From request to installation in just over a week, a full turnkey package was specified to include heating, specialist floor and fully glazed windows to create an appealing shopping environment.

David Garner, Morrison’s Project Manager, commissioned the building from Spaciotempo and was astounded by the company’s ability to react to the crisis.

“The reaction of the team at Spaciotempo was instantaneous. Recognising our dilemma they set to work immediately on a modular retail building that would suit our needs. They even engaged with a flooring contractor who could rectify the slanting ground on which the building was to be sited. Their installation team worked seamlessly with our staff and the end result makes for a superb temporary supermarket which allowed us to carry on our important Christmas trading”.

Morrisons have plans to re-build a bigger and better version of their Penrith store, but in the meantime the emergency store is providing a lifeline – saving residents from travelling out of the town in the cold weather.
