This includes the national Great British archery team. Requirement: Lilleshall in Shropshire is set in secluded surroundings and provides the perfect base for the team to train. However, with numerous tournaments throughout the year they required an outdoor facility that allowed them to train regardless of the weather conditions. Solution: Spaciotempo’s solution was a 100m2 aluminium framed shelter in which two archers can stand under two electric roller shutter doors side by side and shoot out towards targets up to 90 metres away. The building has steel reinforced UPVC cavity walling and a double skinned air filled roofing system, both of which assist climate control. Custom built for the Performance Unit of the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) with green coloured walls, the temporary structure blends in perfectly with the natural and rural setting. Due to its location in the middle of a field, concrete slabs were used to create a base for the building, with the structure itself taking just three days to erect. Benefit: In addition to providing a rapid, cost-effective solution, the decision to install a temporary building allowed GNAS to avoid many of the issues, which would have been associated in achieving planning permission for a permanent building in such a historic location. GNAS performance unit coordinator, Gary Carr says: “The new unit is an expansion of our existing indoor training facility. It allows our Olympic, Paralympic and junior athletes to develop their shooting accuracy under conditions they would expect in competitive tournaments – the majority of which are outdoor. “As a result of the improved quality of training, this year has seen us win more medals at major tournaments than ever before and our mens’ and ladies’ Recurve teams took Silver and Bronze awards in this year’s World Championship in Leipzig. We are delighted with the immediate benefits that this cost effective solution by Spaciotempo has given us and we are hopeful of producing more winners at the next Olympics." |
