Chesterfield Football Club

“We are tremendously pleased with the players’ tunnel. It gives a real focus to the players on match day and, of course, is great exposure for our sponsors. Everything has come together really well for the new season and we are grateful to Spaciotempo, who worked very hard to turn the tunnel round in time with the right logos in the right places and in the right colours.”

Case Study

The new home of Chesterfield FC as of the 2010/2011 season is the brand new, purpose-built B2net Stadium, which has been in the making for some 9 years. Following 139 years at the Recreation Ground, Saltergate, the club has invested in its future with gleaming new facilities; a move designed to attract a host of new Chesterfield fans.

Delivered just in time for the first game on the new pitch, the Spireites have taken delivery of a brand new players’ tunnel, which proudly featured on Sky TV during the clubs foray in to the Carling Cup vs Middlesbrough in early August. Whilst the Championship team clinched victory on the day, Chesterfield FC and the new facilities were also winners with ample TV coverage of the smart new stadium and a focus on the tunnel as the players walked out on to the pitch.

The tunnel, supplied by Spaciotempo Ltd of Uttoxeter, is emblazoned with sponsor’s logo, The DCJ Group, a Chesterfield based insurance group. Highly visible from the stands and located in the HTM Main West Stand, it adds a sense of occasion for the players and crowds alike on match day. Standing at 2.4m tall, 2m wide and some 8m in length, the tunnel retracts back to the wall to create extra space when not in use. It is manufactured from tough, flame retardant pvc on an aluminium frame and runs smoothly on rubber tyres. Exacting dimensions were crucial in the design to eliminate the possibility of damage from the two concrete walls either side of the tunnel.

The Spaciotempo retractable tunnel concept is proving to be exceptionally popular with football clubs in every league from Stoke City in the Premier League, Middlesbrough and Preston North End in the Championship and Notts County in League 1. A whole host of other clubs have either ordered new tunnels or new covers for existing tunnels as sponsors change or damage is repaired. Available in a variety of sizes, the tunnels are used for a range of applications including covered walkways to the hospitality facilities, on-site storage facilities and even to protect fans from inclement weather at the ticket offices.
