Aberdeen Harbour – Industrial Tunnel

Aberdeen Harbour approached Spaciotempo to develop a solution for them which would give protection from the weather for passengers boarding or disembarking from a vessel when in port. Flexibility was key as vessels may be berthed in different areas of the harbour and so it was necessary for the temporary walkway to be relocatable and extendable to provide a covered solution in any area of the harbour.

When Aberdeen Harbour got in touch with Spaciotempo to supply a retractable tunnel, flexibility of solution was top of their shopping list.  Visual impact, in keeping with the Harbour’s branding was also crucial as it would be used by cruise liner passengers as they arrived in port.

External Relations Director at Aberdeen Harbour, Chris Bain, explains: “We needed a temporary walkway which could be used wherever and whenever passengers were joining or leaving a vessel in port. So it needed to be easily manoeuvred, and also create a positive first impression of the Harbour’s facilities. The retractable tunnel was supplied in two 5m lengths which we can use separately or joined together. Special fixings on the roof enable the tunnel to be lifted if necessary and large multi-directional wheels with brakes guarantee ease of movement around the dock area. The clear upper panels of the tunnel flood it with light while the branding ensures it is extremely visible. It is a great addition to our facilities and we are delighted! And of course because it is a retractable tunnel, it can be retracted down to its minimum size and stored out of the way when not needed, making best use of the space in the harbour!”
