The Range spreads seasonal cheer among staff
Christmas has come early for employees at a popular retailer who no longer need to brave the winter weather when loading and unloading festive stock.
The happiest season of all is also the busiest for The Range at Exmouth which sees shoppers flock through its doors to snap up seasonal gifts, decorations, trees and much more.
And bosses at the Salterton Road store, which is a one-stop-shop for homes, gardens and leisure, were keen to spread some festive cheer among employees.
As part of a plan to increase productivity and reduce excess stock, the branch was chosen to pilot a ‘model warehouse’ concept.
During the implementation, team members were asked to come up with ideas of how to further improve the business.
With the severe snow storms of last winter still fresh in their minds, it didn’t take long for employees to put a retractable tunnel for loading and unloading stock at the top of their wish-list.
Bosses agreed it would be a benefit to both staff and stock and swiftly contacted the UK’s leading provider of temporary buildings, Spaciotempo, to discuss the options.
Within a matter of weeks, the light grey tunnel was in place at the rear of the warehouse.
The spacious walkway measures 4.5m wide x 10m long x 3m at eave height when extended, allowing pallets to be stacked on either side with plenty of room for a forklift truck to travel through the middle.
Store Manager Phill Need said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year and we want our customers to have a really positive experience when they visit us.
“To ensure we have everything in stock, we need regular deliveries of our seasonal items but we also need somewhere safe and dry to store them so they remain in the same excellent condition as when they arrived.
“That is where Spaciotempo provided the perfect solution for us. The retractable tunnel not only offers much-needed storage space, it is also a big benefit to staff who can now load and unload deliveries under cover which is far better.
“Given the severe snow storms we experienced last winter, I am confident we will get a great deal of use out of the tunnel in the next few months.”
Warehouse Supervisor Jonathan Taylor added: “The tunnel is far more substantial than we anticipated and is sturdy enough to withstand adverse winter weather conditions.
“It is also a great height for the forklift which can easily manoeuvre inside the tunnel, even with pallets stacked on either side. It does exactly what it says on the tin and has provided the perfect solution for our business.”
