SOLUTION:

A rebranding exercise across DIY chain B&Q’s Warehouse outlets meant that it wanted to renovate its flagship store, in Poole, Dorset.

B&Q needed to keep a series of new designs under wraps and ensure that the renovation process was carried out as safely and as swiftly as possible, the company decided to close its main store and set up shop in a temporary store located on the car park while the work was carried out.

In order to maintain the level of service they would expect, B&Q wanted a temporary store that was enjoyable for customers to visit and large enough to contain enough product lines to ensure that their visit was worthwhile.

We supplied a 1050sqm temporary building, which was fitted out with tills, a customer service desk and several aisles of display units containing 10,000 of its most popular products. It had electric doors fitted, as well as an oil-fired heating system and lighting.

B&Q had never used a temporary store before but reported that the arrangement had worked “really well”. It was in use for seven weeks, during which time the main store was transformed into one of B&Q’s new generation Manifesto stores, complete with low-level shelves, DIY skills classes and help and advice kiosks.

Scott Jameson, Spaciotempo’s Managing Director stated, “I understand that the temporary retail structure traded as strongly as some of B&Q’s smaller outlets over the seven weeks, which demonstrates that it was a positive experience for customers. It more than served its purpose.’’
