Spaciotempo provided emergency relief to Trinity School in Carlisle following Storm Desmond, which created devastating flooding within the area. The floods left the school with a lack of power and heating at the site, making it unsafe to open. As such, Spaciotempo came to the rescue with a temporary sports hall that got the school’s pupils back up and running in no time.
Following Storm Desmond in Carlisle, Cumbria, Trinity School was forced to close due to a lack of power, heating, submerged boiler rooms and risks from contaminated water.
The large secondary school, which is steeped in history dating back to 1968, was rebuilt and refurbished at a cost of over twenty million pounds after the floods in 2005, however the site was destroyed once again.
Many of their facilities were flooded including the sports hall. One of Trinity Schools’ joint head teachers, Mr Kay stated, “It was heart breaking for our city, homes of our students and staff were destroyed. Everything had been lost – schoolwork, you saw it lying about on the floor and teaching resources that had been built up for years ruined.”
Spaciotempo responded immediately to Trinity School’s call and, because of our flexible in-house manufacturing and agility of in-house installation, we could complete the installation of a brand-new temporary structure within a matter of weeks.
Measuring 15m x 40m, the temporary building was erected, including specialist flooring that had all the markings to be used for various sports such as netball, heating and electrics. It was surface mounted onto the schools existing tarmac surface, causing minimal disruption to the school and students.
Scott Jameson, Spaciotempo’s Managing Director concluded, “We have many years’ of experience in disaster recovery work and we pulled out all the stops to provide a temporary building solution for Trinity School that would suit them in this devastating time. We are proud to of been able to offer a temporary structure to the school to allow the students to gain some kind of normality ready for their exams and whilst the area recovers.”
